Description
Summary:At 5G mobile base station, multi beam radiation pattern is obtained by the hybrid beam forming array antenna. As for excellent multi beam antenna, a dielectric lens antenna is proposed. Determination of the accurate feed positions becomes an important subject to achieve multi beam radiation pattern. The effective method is by employing the focal region ray tracing. In this paper, the focal region ray tracing is performed by using an electromagnetic simulator, FEKO. Two types of lenses such as hyperbolic and SLC shaped lens are designed to determine the suitable feed positions for multi beam operations. As a result, multi beam radiation patterns are obtained and validated through electromagnetic simulation to demonstrate the adequateness of feed positions. Feed position of SLC shaped lens is more accurate for multi beam performance due to lower total reduction in gain approximately 2.72 dBi and antenna efficiency of about 68.39% are achieved.
